“From bech to market highlighting the beautifulness of Death Valleys”

Emilio González is a PhD in Biology (2006), specializing in Genetics from the Complutense University and the Biological Research Center (CSIC, Madrid), where he trained in the emerging field of RNA interference (RNAi) therapy. This led him to a 5-year postdoctoral stay, combining academia at Stanford University's Molecular Imaging Program and working with the company Transderm. He was hired under a scholarship associated with the Pachyonychia Congenita project, focused on searching for RNAi-based therapies for this rare skin disease.

At Stanford, he also engaged with the Postdoc-Link-to-Entrepreneurship program, through which he co-founded a biotech company, Skin Deep Diagnostics, dedicated to the early detection of skin cancer, gaining access to business courses and networking with top CEOs and VCs in Silicon Valley. Upon returning to Spain in 2012, he completed a stint at the nanotechnology center (BIONAND) and pursued the Executive Program from IE Business School "Management Fundamentals for Scientists." He has developed several business plans and participated in the founding of 3 startups.

For 8 years, he served as the Director of the Drug Development area at Canvax Biotech, securing and coordinating projects from various public calls (RETOS collaboration, Invest in Spain, Juan de Andalucía) and European programs (Eurostars and SME instruments), among others. He led the high-throughput drug screening area and developed Canvax Biotech's drug pipeline with three programs in oncological diseases and one in autoimmune disease, and has contributed to the business development of CAR-T cell-gene therapy.
